**IMPORTANT **  

All beach huts remain closed until reopening on 4 July 2020.

As a result of the easing of lockdown and the next phase of the Government’s 3 step plan, we can now announce that from Saturday 4 July 2020 the beach hut service will restart. Seasonal hut keys can be obtained from the Bay Inspectors from tomorrow (Thursday 2 July).

We kindly request you familiarise yourself with the Beach Hut Guidance and ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ below... and also help support Thanet District Council keep our beaches clean by taking rubbish home with you, where possible.

How do I keep up to date with latest communication?

Due to inconsistencies with contact information, regular updates have been posted since the start of March on the Your Leisure COVID-19 webpage in an attempt to provide timely updates:

To help communicate these updates, we have also worked with the Thanet Huts Facebook group to ensure posts are shared in a timely fashion.

Our team are busy making contact with customers and kindly request that an email address is provided so further updates can be shared.

Can I use my beach hut this year?

Following further easing of Government lockdown restrictions and with beach hut provision around the UK being reintroduced – yes, it is our intention to reopen the beach hut service this year and the reason for continuing our hut siting preparations.

As laid out in previous Government phased lockdown easing plans, we are anticipating the date you may be allowed the use the beach hut will be early July, which is subject to further Government instruction.

What has happened to the time we have been unable to use our hut?

Any loss of service will be reimbursed in the form of a pro-rata credit, that will be taken off of the fees payable for next year. How much will be determined on when the service can be resumed.  

If I don’t want to use my beach hut this year, will I lose my beach hut plot?

No,  any loss of service prior to reopening, will be rolled-over to next year, however you still will be liable for the balance of the season whether you choose to use your beach hut or not.  

If I don’t want to use my beach hut, can I get a refund?

Yes, you can relinquish your beach hut/plot and receive a full refund. The beach hut/plot you relinquish, will then be offered to the waiting list.

What happens if I have to continue to social distance under the instruction of the NHS.

If, following notification by letter* (*evidence required) from the NHS and/or GP that you have been identified as ‘critically extremely vulnerable’ and are advised to shield, please contact the office to discuss options. Either email: beachhuts@yourleisure.uk.com or call: 01843 296111.

What options are available?

  • I would like to use my hut as soon as we are able – then any loss of service prior to reopening, will be rolled-over to next year and reimbursed in the form of a pro-rata credit against your new year fees. There will be no fee increase for our current customers for next year’s season (2021).
  • I don’t want to use my hut this year – as above, any loss of service prior to reopening, will be rolled-over to next year, however you still will be liable for the balance of the season whether you use your beach hut or not.  
  • I no longer want my beach hut and would like a refund – you can relinquish your beach hut/plot and receive a full refund. The beach/plot you relinquish, will then be offered to the waiting list.
  • I am unable to use my beach hut because I am under instruction form the NHS – If, following notification by letter* (*evidence required) from the NHS and/or GP that you have been identified as ‘critically extremely vulnerable’ and are advised to shield, please contact the office to discuss options. What social distancing measures are in place?

Although, preparation work is underway beach huts remain closed until further notice.

We are preparing for an anticipated re-start early July, however, a date is yet to be confirmed and subject to further Government guidance.

Current Latest guidance on accessing green spaces: Guidance on accessing green spaces in England includes reference to beaches and water sports.

Will other bay facilities be re-opening?

We are working with our partners Thanet District Council to find safe solutions for the re-opening of supporting bay facilities.

Update on Coastal Public Toilets

The main beach toilets will be open from Saturday 30th May. The following facilities will be open to the public from 10am to 5pm daily, including disabled facilities which will be accessible with a RADAR key:

  • Minnis Bay
  • West Bay
  • St Mildred’s Bay
  • Westbrook Bay
  • Botany Bay
  • Stone Bay
  • Dumpton Gap

Toilets open already include:

  • Margate Main Sands (Train station end)
  • Joss Bay
  • Viking Bay (Harbour Street)
  • Ramsgate (near Wetherspoons)

Lifeguard Provision

There will be RNLI lifeguard cover for Viking Bay from Saturday 30th May. This will be 7 days a week from 10am to 6pm. Lifeguard cover for Margate Main Sands will begin from Saturday 20th June. These are the only two Thanet beaches that the RNLI are able to cover. TDC are liaising with the RNLI on what level of service can be provided elsewhere but as things stand currently there will be no cover at the other beaches.
