Questions and Answers

Why does my child have to repeat stage 7 when changing from Tides to Dover for their swimming lessons?

Dover has a 25m pool and swim in lanes so not to put the children off their lessons it is best for them to have a few lessons in the same stage class so they can learn lane etiquette and to increase their fitness stamina and continuous stroke technique within a class they are capable of doing. Dover deep end is 3.2m so they can be introduced to jumping in from the starting blocks as well as diving. The swimmers are moved up to the 45 minute classes as soon as they are ready for them. We feel it is best for the child's confidence to be moved up than moved down.

Does my child need to wear a swim hat and goggles?

Yes wearing a Swim Hats is for Health and Safety, not only do they keep the child's hair out of their eyes and protects the hair from the chemicals in the water but they enhance the water quality of the pool by not letting the hair products used in our pool. They will improve your child's swimming experience because long hair is heavy when wet and can make swimming more difficult. If your child is working on breathing and head rotations it can be very difficult for them to take a breath. The colour of the hat easily identifies which lesson the child should be in, the Lifeguards and Swim Teachers can easily identify which area of the pool the child should be swimming in.

From the very beginning of the child's swimming journey they are encouraged to put their face in the water, wearing goggles will help them see clearly under the water and will protect the swimmers eyes form chlorine which can cause irritation of the eyes. Swimming goggles need to be tight otherwise water will get in.
