The long anticipated wait to nominate your sporting champions is over.
The annual event is taking place on Thursday 17 November at the Winter Gardens in Margate and is organised by Thanet District Council’s Sports Matters team, and supported by various organisations from the public, private and voluntary sector.
The event now in its eigth year aims to reward and celebrate the outstanding achievements from our community clubs, coaches and volunteers who have excelled during the last 12 months.
All nominations are scored by a panel of members involved in local and regional sport, winners and highly commended are scored and selected following a set scoring criteria, so remember its about the quality of your nomination rather than the quantity!
With 9 award categories up for grabs this year, this is a great opportunity to reward an individual, group, school or club for their continuous hard work in driving sport and physical activity in Thanet.
Award Category | Catergory Description |
Sports Club of the Year | Awarded to clubs demonstrating excellence in management, development, fair play, open and inclusive, provide a clear a robust coaching structure to further promote and support coach education, evidence of competing at a local, regional or national level. |
Sports Coach of the Year | Awarded to a coach who has demonstrated a commitment to improving their skills through taking coaching courses, outstanding coaching ability, committed from grass roots to excellence and promotes fair play and respect and has a positive impact within their sport, individual or organisation. |
Disability Sports Person of the Year | Awarded in recognition of a sports person, registered as disabled in any age group, who has exhibited the highest level of skill, performance, dedication and commitment to their sport in the last year. |
Sports Volunteer of the Year | Awarded to recognise those working behind the scenes to make it easy for coaches and players to take part in sport. A chance to say thank you to those that often get no credit. Those that work tirelessly to support the development of the club through fund-raising and promote opportunities within the wider community. |
Sports person of the Year | Sports Person has exhibited an improved level of performance in the last 12 months at a local, regional or national level, has shown commitment and dedication to their sport, reinforces the sporting values, fair play and respect, has shown enthusiasm and gone the extra mile to further enhance their personal and skill development. |
Young Sports Person of the Year | Awarded to a Sports Person aged 15 years or under who has exhibited an improved level of performance in the last 12 months at a local, regional or national level, has shown commitment and dedication to their sport, reinforces the sporting values, fair play and respect, has shown enthusiasm and gone the extra mile to further enhance their personal and skill development. |
Primary sports school of the Year | Awarded to a primary school that provide high quality PE and school sport, engages with the local community and encourages pupils of all abilities to participate. Supports staff development to further enhance and develop sustainable school sport opportunities. |
Secondary sports school of the Year | Awarded to a secondary school that provide high quality PE and school sport, engages with the local community and encourages pupils of all abilities to participate. Supports staff development to further enhance and develop sustainable school sport opportunities. |
Community Sport Impact Award | Awarded to clubs/groups demonstrating excellence in management, development, fair play, open and inclusive, Have contributed towards, or made a significant impact within a local community setting, encouraged participants to engage in sport and physical activity at all levels. |
