Thanet truly has a stunning coastline and at its heart is “The Original Seaside”, Margate. Margate has attracted visitors for hundreds of years, from tourists, Jolly Boys, creatives and explorers. One of the great artists, JMW Turner, would visit the Isle of Thanet to be inspired by its stunning seascapes and sunsets. Charles Dickens visited Broadstairs frequently and clearly drew inspiration from the town and its characters. Recently, Thanet has been a thriving film and television location, welcoming a range of acclaimed productions including “Killing Eve” and “Empire of Light”. And who could forget that classic Chas ‘n’ Dave song!

What is the weekly hire period?

All hire periods are stated on your booking confirmation. The weekly hire period is from 10:00am on Saturday to midday on Friday. Keys must be returned to the bay office by midday.

How do I collect my keys?

Weekly hire customers can collect the key from the Bay Inspector Office after 10:00 Saturday and must be returned to the bay office by midday on Friday. If the office is closed, please ensure the hut is locked up and post the keys through the letter box.

Daily hire customers can collect their keys from the Bay Inspector Office from 10:00 on the day of the booking and return them no later than 17:00 on the day. If the office is closed, please ensure the hut is locked up and post the keys through the letter box.

What time can I access the hut?

All huts can be accessed from 6:00am and must be locked by one hour after sunset. Access is not permitted overnight.

What can I store in the hut?

General beach items can be stored within the hut such as water sports equipment, beach toys, chairs etc., however, customers are reminded that any loss or damage is the hirer's responsibility and therefore should refrain from storing valuable items. Any food should be stored in air-tight / fully sealed containers to reduce the attraction of pests.

The Hut is fitted with a gas trivet and bottle, how do I use it and what happens when the gas runs out?

Some huts are supplied with a gas trivet. The welcome pack contains an information leaflet on how to use the trivet. Customers must keep the surrounding area clear. If you have any problems or require a new gas bottle, please speak directly to a member of the bay team or call our Customer Support Team on 03333 660 661. We will arrange a replacement as soon as possible.

What services or amenities are available to me?

Each Bay has varied amenities such as toilets, showers, catering outlets and accessible facilities. These can be viewed on the main Beach Hut Guest web page - CLICK HERE

Can I use a BBQ on the beach?

BBQs are only permitted on certain bays after 18:00. Full details of the use, disposal and type permitted can be found on the main Beach Hut Guest web page.

Are dogs allowed on the beach or promenade?

Dogs are welcome at some bays whilst others have restrictions. For a full list of the restrictions can be found on the main Beach Hut Guest web page - CLICK HERE

How can I hire a daily hut?

Daily huts will become available online to book if the hut is not sold as a weekly hire. Daily hire will become available 7 days before the date and cannot be booked in advance.

What happens if I change my padlock?

If you change the padlock on your beach hut, you need to ensure you give a copy of the key to the Bay Inspector. If we don't have a copy and need to enter your hut for checks or emergency work, we will cut the padlock off and replace it. The replacement can be picked up from the Bay inspector.

Winter Hire Information

The Winter Hire season is 1 October to 14 April and this is the same every year.

Payment for Winter Hire huts needs to be made between 1-30 September.

Keys can be collected at 10:00 from the Bay Inspector from 1 October. If keys have not been collected by 13 October, please email CST@yourleisure.uk.com to arrange collection.

Keys must be returned by 14 April at the end of the Winter season.

Dogs & our beaches

Information about where and when dogs are permitted on beaches

Where and when you can take your dog onto the beach: We’d love dogs to be able to enjoy our beaches and foreshores all year round. However, to ensure everyone is able to enjoy our coastline, there are some places where, between 1 May and 30 September, dogs can’t go or will have to be kept on a lead.

BBQs & Beaches Information

BBQs are not permitted on any of the Council’s land, however are permitted on beaches after 6pm.

Enjoying a barbecue is one the great things about living and visiting the Thanet coast. These guidelines will help you make the most of this opportunity, and ensure the seafront and open spaces stays safe for everyone – without spoiling your fun. Please follow these simple rules – below. You can also help follow Thanet Coast Codes to reduce disturbance to marine and birdlife.

BBQs should only be used after 6pm on Thanet beaches.

Check signage and bylaws before using.

Avoid using petrol or any other accelerants.

Be aware of other users around you, especially children, animals and wildlife.

Ensure BBQ is on a flat surface, well away from any structures, trees and shrubs, which may get damaged or be combustible.

Never leave BBQs unattended.

Do not use disposable BBQs on or near public benches or other furniture.

It is imperative that BBQs are placed above the ground and on an even surface either on slabs or bricks – to help prevent damage, such as to grass.

Ensure that the BBQ is fully extinguished and cooled before placing in bins. If no bins available please take them and all your other waste home for responsible disposal.

Please do not bury or dispose of your BBQ under any circumstances in the sand on any of our beaches, seafronts, soil or hedgerows, nor empty the contents in to the sea. The sand can get very hot which is a danger to other beach users.
