GOGA In Action, Dover Charity Boccia Success

GOGA In Action, Dover organised an interhub Boccia event in August for Headway East Kent at St. Radigund's Community Centre.

Headway East Kent is an independent charity working to provide social rehabilitation to adults with acquired brain injury and the event was a great success for the charity and GOGA In Action, Dover teams.

Each Kent hub was represented by two teams, with participants from Ashford, Folkestone, Canterbury, Dover and Thanet. Everyone there received a GOGA bag with plenty of goodies and a medal; even though there had to be one winning team. The feedback from organisers and clients alike was one of positivity and planning for it to happen again.

The winning team was Dover A with Ben and Claire lifting the shield at the end.

Ben said, “I really enjoyed the event. It was good to get the hubs together and to do something different. I’m looking forward to the next one.” Claire added, “It was a good day and fun to meet the other hubs. I am proud to be part of the team and help us to win. I am looking forward to playing again and defending our title.”

Ciarán (GOGA In Action, Dover coordinator) said; “...it was an important step in breaking down barriers to participation in sport and I hope that more of these events will happen under the GOGA stewardship.”

Melanie (Ben’s wife) said, “Ben was in really good spirits afterwards and it seems to have boosted his confidence. He still remembers it, which is a real indicator of how much he enjoyed the day, as he struggles to recall his usual daily activities. Thank you so much for arranging it.”

John (Claire's father) – added, “For me, it was good to see everyone getting together. Everyone had a good time meeting up and enjoying the challenge together. I found it very well organised, and I would like to say a big thank you to Ciarán and all who helped make this a great experience.”

Well done, everyone!

A huge thank you to all the organisers from Headway East Kent who put a lot of time and energy into making sure all the clients got to the venue. Also, a big shout out to the amazing volunteers who either drove people to the event and/or helped on the day. Thank you also to Dover Rotary and Rebecca from DDC for their support.

Last, but by no means least, thank you to the participants on the day for such determination, fun and happiness.
