GOGA Yoga for Childrens Mental Health
To help raise awareness for Children's Mental Health Week (6-12th February 2023), the GOGA In Action team visited Merry Go Round Nursery in Sandwich to deliver a Children's Yoga session followed by a Mindful Arts and Crafts session for children aged 2, 3 and 4 years old. The children enjoyed practicing downward-facing dog, hopping like frogs and balancing in the tree pose. After Yoga, the children enjoyed laying down and relaxing, whilst practicing breathing techniques. Next, the children were invited to pick a character stress ball to decorate and keep. This was a lovely opportunity for them to talk openly and practice mindfulness while doing arts and crafts. Stress balls can help calm, focus and ease stress and anxiety. They can be a great tool for children to help ease overwhelming emotions and strengthen muscles whilst improving hand and eye coordination.
Children's comments included:
"Can we do it again?"
"We do Yoga at home with Mummy."
"I love balancing on one leg, I'm good at it!"
"I love my new squishy."
