Ian Barker, Head of Community & Funding, successfully completed the Paris Marathon on 17 October raising £1000 for the amazing Wheelability project.
After getting his bike stolen, Ian took up casual running about 18 months ago. This then turned into a challenge from his son to join him and run the Paris marathon.
So, after 16 weeks of training, with early starts, covering over 650 kilometres, Ian joined 60,000 other runners and took his place at the start of the Paris Marathon, on the Avenue des Champs-Elysees. Some 4 and a half hours later, with several stops for the toilet, water, and lots of bananas, he finally crossed the finish line at the Arc de Triomphe. Ian said, "While it was slightly tiring, I have caught the bug and am looking at doing another, but not quite yet."
Ian is very grateful for the many people that kindly sponsored him, helping him raise £1000 for the Wheelability project. Your Leisure’s Wheelability volunteers are proud to provide a variety of fully accessible bikes for disabled and non-disabled people alike to enjoy cycling together along the beautiful Minnis Bay Coast. The cost to use the bikes as often as you want is only £25 for individuals and £100 for groups for a whole year!
